ANDORC is first and foremost a humanitarian organization that supports and educates Americans to travel to Russia to provide direct care and assistance in orphanages. ANDORC is also an organization that promotes volunteerism in Russian orphanages through cultural exchanges between Americans and Russians, thereby helping to strengthen civil society, which is an essential element to building democracy. Many U.S. families look to Russia for adoption opportunities to avoid lengthy waiting lists in the U.S. However, many Russian children will never have the opportunity to be adopted. From birth, these infants experience the harsh realities of overpopulated, understaffed orphanages run by exhausted administrators. These circumstances culminate into sensory deprivation and abuse. Thus, a mass population of children with mental retardation and developmental disabilities emerges. Often these children are never able to walk, talk or interact with others. The hope of ever being adopted is never realized by these children as they are shipped off to asylums and mental health facilities. To counteract this trend, ANDORC is committed to providing willing volunteers with the opportunity to serve these children. By providing direct care in Russian orphanages, volunteers will help infants grow into healthy children and prepare them for a bright future with their adoptive families. Volunteers will also provide comfort to children already the victims of abuse and improve their quality of life. The money raised through our fundraising efforts will support and educate local volunteers to travel to Russia and care for these orphaned children. |
